Drunk driver arrested after crashing into barbeque restaurant Saturday evening

On Saturday, July 29th, 2023, at 7:21 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Stanislaus State Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at Big Vic’s BBQ, 842 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a 1995 GMC Yukon that had struck the northwest corner of the building.

The vehicle had a single occupant, Irving Rodriguez, 25, of Turlock, who suffered minor injuries.

While speaking with Rodriguez, officers noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Rodriguez was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested.

Rodriguez’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away. There was also minor damage caused to Big Vic’s BBQ.

Rodriguez was issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order and his vehicle was impounded.

Rodriguez was then booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
